MARQUETTE, Mich. – Two home events highlight this week’s schedule. The Northern Michigan University swimming and diving team will host its lone home meet of the year while football looks to continue the winning ways. The weekend is Family Weekend at NMU while Saturday’s football game is Band Day.
The swimming and diving team hosts the annual Green/Gold Meet at 10 a.m. in the PEIF Pool Saturday (Oct. 17). Many new faces are on the roster. This will be the only chance to see the Aqua-‘Cats in person this season.
Football (5-1, 5-1 GLIAC) looks to run its record in the Superior Dome to 4-0 this season against Hillsdale College Saturday (Oct. 17) at 1 p.m. The Wildcats lead the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) in rushing offense (260.67 avg/g), scoring offense (38.83 pts/g), total defense (283.33 avg/g) and scoring defense (13.17 pts/g).   “Back the ‘Cats” t-shirts will be available for sale for $5 each.   The shirts will be on sale at the Superior Dome and in the PEIF Recreation Center. Thursday and Friday the shirts will be for sale in the marketplace dining center from 4-7 p.m. Saturday before the game from 11-12:30 p.m. shirts will be on sale at the Family Weekend Tailgate in Vandament Arena.
Two teams are on the road this weekend. Volleyball (12-7, 8-2 GLIAC) travels to Lansing, Mich. to participate in the GLVC-GLIAC Crossover Tournament. The ‘Cats face Indianapolis Friday (Oct. 16) at 11 a.m. and St. Joseph’s at 6:30 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 17) the ‘Cats square off against Drury at 12:30 p.m. in its only match of the day. NMU enters the weekend with a six-match winning streak.
Soccer (6-6-1, 4-4-1 GLIAC) takes on Saginaw Valley State Friday (Oct. 16) at 4 p.m. in University Center, Mich. The ‘Cats after a day off will face Northwood Sunday (Oct. 18) at noon in Midland, Mich. NMU lost to Saginaw Valley State a couple of weeks ago in Marquette (1-0) and defeated Northwood the same weekend (3-2).
