DETROIT, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University volleyball team keeps rolling along. Tonight the Wildcats won its fifth straight match with a four-set win over the Wayne State Warriors (20-25, 25-21, 25-22, 26-24).
NMU improves to 11-7 overall on the 2009 campaign and 7-3 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action. Wayne State falls to 14-4 and 6-4 respectively.
NMU dropped the first set, but stormed back to take the next three and in each winning set the ‘Cats had a side out percentage of 50 percent or better. NMU was 14-21 for 66 percent in the second set, 15-24 for 62 percent in the third set and 12-24 for 50 percent in the fourth set. Two ‘Cats led the team on the night with 10 or more kills for the match. Mandie Meyer recorded a match-high 15 while teammate Amy Andersen-Goldsworthy contributed 10. As a team the ‘Cats had 51 kills in 162 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .179.
Maddie Ogden had a match-high 41 assists to go along with her 10 digs. NMU did record six service aces as Katt Garvick led the way with four. On the defensive front, Cassie Osiecki had a team and match-high 18 digs. Becca Feuerherd added 13 digs while Meyer had 10. At the net the ‘cats registered four block assists. Sami Vierk and Andree Ring had two clock assists each.
NMU will be back in action up the road a bit in Midland, Mich. against the Northwood Timberwolves tomorrow afternoon (Oct. 10 at 4 p.m.).
