TIFFIN, Ohio – The Northern Michigan University volleyball team won its third match in a row Friday night with a three-set win over the Tiffin University Dragons. NMU won by scores of 25-15, 25-22 and 25-22 to run its record to 9-7 overall and 5-3 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Tiffin falls to 2-16 and 0-8 respectively.
Mandie Meyer led the Wildcats with 10 kills on the night. Maddie Ogden added eight. For the match the ‘Cats recorded 40 kills in 96 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .219. NMU’s side out percentage was over 55 percent in all three sets. The ‘Cats had a side out percentage of 56 percent (9-16) in the first set, 59 percent (13-22) in set two and 69 percent (16-23) in set three.
Ogden added a match-high 31 assists in the win. Once again the ‘Cats were on-target with the serve as the team registered 12 service aces. Becca Feuerherd led the way with six service aces while Ogden added three. Feuerherd also added 11 digs to lead the defensive effort. At the net the ‘Cats had two block solos and four block assists. Sami Vierk had two block assists for the match.
NMU will continue with its Ohio swing with a match at Ashland tomorrow afternoon (Oct. 3 at 1 p.m.).
