MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan took the first set against the Grand Valley State Lakers Friday night at Vandament Arena before the visitors took control of the match by winning the next three to win in four sets (25-22, 21-25, 20-25, 18-25). With the loss to the Lakers the Wildcats fall to 6-6 overall on the season and 2-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Grand Valley improves to 7-5 and 3-1 respectively.
Amy Andersen-Goldsworthy led the ‘Cats with 12 kills for the match. As a team NMU had a hitting percentage of .101 on 46 kills in 158 total attempts. The Lakers hit the ball with a percentage of .200 on 49 kills in 130 total attempts. Maddie Ogden dished the pill for a match-high 40 assists as she also added six digs. The ‘Cats had seven service aces on the night. Three players had all the aces as Katt Garvick led the way with three while Ogden and Andersen-Goldsworthy had two each.
Becca Feuerherd and Mandie Meyer led the defensive effort for the match with 13 and 12 digs respectively. Garvick at the net had a block solo and two block assists. Meyer and Sami Vierk each had two block assists.
NMU will not have long to rest as they face the Bulldogs of Ferris State Saturday afternoon (Sept. 19 at 3 p.m.) in Vandament Arena.
