Volleyball Wildcats Three Matches In Vandament
MARQUETTE, Mich. – This week’s Northern Michigan University athletic schedule has three volleyball matches inside Vandament Arena. While the football team stays in the U.P. with a trip to Houghton.
Volleyball (5-5, 1-1 GLIAC) host one of its U.P. rivals Tuesday (Sept. 15) at 7 p.m. when the Michigan Tech Huskies invade Vandament Arena. Later in the week the Wildcats welcome Grand Valley State Friday (Sept. 18 at 7 p.m.) and then the Ferris State Bulldogs the next day (Sept. 19 at 3 p.m.). The ‘Cats split last weekend in its first two conference matches of the season with a loss to Saginaw Valley State and a win at Lake Superior State.
Also playing a Michigan Tech team this week is the NMU football team (1-1, 1-1 GLIAC). The winner of Saturday’s game (Sept. 19 at 1 p.m.) receives the Miner’s Cup. MTU currently has the Miner’s Cup as a result of the victory last year in Marquette. The ‘Cats are coming off an impressive 62-0 win over Tiffin Saturday.

The NMU soccer team (3-2, 1-0 GLIAC) takes to the road for two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contests. First up is a clash at Grand Valley State Friday (Sept. 18 at 4 p.m.) then after a day off will face Ferris State Sunday (Sept. 20 at 12 p.m.). NMU defeated Ashland 5-0 in its lone game last week.
Coming off a first-place finish at the Lake Superior State Challenge Saturday the NMU runners compete at the Midwest Collegiate Cross Country Championships in Kenosha, Wis. Saturday (Sept. 19).
After teeing off the season last week at Saginaw Valley State the men’s golfers hit the links at the NCAA Regional I in Holland, Mich. Sunday and Monday (Sept. 20-21).
