SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University cross country team competed at the Lake Superior State Challenge Saturday afternoon. .NMU had five runners in the top 10 and won the team competition with 25 points. Michigan Tech was second (31) followed by Lake Superior State (85) and Finlandia (inc.).
Bibiane Mahy led the way for the Wildcats with a third-place showing as she covered the course in a time of 19:38.1. Jenny Wiedmeyer was the next ‘Cat to cross the finish line about seven seconds later (19:45.0) in fourth place. Olivia Juntila placed sixth with a time of 19:48.0. Nora Kiilunen was eighth (19:49.9) while teammate Maegan Hendershot was the next runner with a time of 19:55.1. Sarah Allen just missed a top 10 finish as she was 11th (20:03.6).
Kristen Schultz placed 14th (20:14.4), Monica Markvardsen 15th (20:17.5), Rita Woitas 16th (20:19.6), Katie Holway 18th (20:27.1), Cara Crawford 20th (20:30.5) and Erin VanEnkevort 22nd (20:48.2) for the ‘Cats.
Other runners included Ingrid Fjeldheim 26th (21:03.3), Karmen Whitham 27th (21:05.9), Brittany Goodwillie 33rd (21:16.1), Jessie Krob 35th (21:31.3), Caitlin Cassidy 37th (21:40.8), Brittany Loomis 38th (21:43.2), Anna Karin Berglund 40th (21:50.2), Steph Enderby 41st (21:59.2), Libby Ellis 42nd (22:04.6), Rosie Frankowski 43rd (22:05.7), Brianne Gerlach-McDonak 45th (22:13.4), Jackie Leow 46th (22:19.8) and Molly Burger 50th (22:40.5).
The runners are back in action next Saturday (Sept. 19) at the Midwest Collegiate Championships.
