ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Northern Michigan University soccer team used two first half goals and added another goal in the second 45 minutes of play for a 3-0 win over Concordia University Saturday afternoon. NMU improves to 2-1-0 on the season while Concordia falls to 3-1-1.
Celia Sturos gave NMU the 1-0 lead with her first goal of the season at 29:05 on an assist from Joanna Kiilunen. Kiilunen then turned around and made the score 2-0 with her first goal of the season at 40:16. Ashley DeKeyser, also scoring her first goal of the season, scored the final marker on the afternoon at 76:34 for the final margin.
Kara Music with three saves for the game recorded her 19 career shutout. She is on top of the NMU career list for shutouts.
NMU had 18 shots for the game with six being on-goal. Concordia had 10 with three on-goal. The home team had one more corner kick than NMU at 4-3.
The Wildcats will stay in Minnesota and face Minnesota-Duluth Monday, Labor Day (Sept. 7).
