HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University cross country team ran at the U.P. Collegiate Cross Country Opener Friday afternoon at Michigan Tech. NMU had three runners in the top 11 and scored 37 team points for second place as MTU won the event with 20 points.
Jenny Wiedmeyer was the first Wildcat to cross the finish line with a time of 20:36.3 which was good for eighth place. About six seconds later, Kristen Schulz with a time of 20:42.5 finished. Olivia Juntila placed 11th with a clocking of 20:46.2. Maegan Hendershot (14th, 20:56.4) and Nora Kiilunen (15th, 20:56.8) scored points for the ‘Cats. Sarah Allen with a time of 21:07.7 placed 19th while teammate Monica Markvardsen was next with a time of 21:14.3.
Also running for the ‘Cats were Rita Woitas (22nd, 21:21.3), Marie Helen Soderman (23rd, 21:22.5), Cara Crawford (24th, 21:29.4), Katie Holway (26th, 21:32.0), Ingrid Fjeldheim (30th, 21:45.4), Erin VanEnkevort (34th, 22:10.1), Maria Hoffman (40th, 22:34.7), Kirsten Fjeldheim (41st, 22:36.0), Amanda DeConno (43rd, 22:37.3), Brittany Loomis (44th, 22:37.8), Anna Karin Berglund (46th, 22:43.1), Karmen Whitham (47th, 22:43.9), Connie Goudreau (48th, 22:44.2), Caitlin Cassidy (50th, 22:45.9), Brittany Goodwillie (51st, 22:46.1), Molly Burger (52nd, 22:52.3), Kirsten Hoklas (56th, 23:09.9), Libby Ellis (58th, 23:19.3), Rosie Frankowski (60th, 23:22.1), Jackie Leow (61st, 23:29.5) and Sarah Cousineau (66th, 24:57.9).
NMU will be running again at the Lake Superior State Open September 12.
