MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University volleyball team will kick-off the 2009-10 sports schedule by hosting the Wildcat Open Thursday through Saturday (Aug. 27-29). NMU will face Wisconsin-Parkside Thursday night at 7 p.m. to begin the event. NMU will face St. Cloud State and Winona State Friday (Aug. 28) at 1 and 7 p.m. respectively. Saturday (Aug. 29) the Wildcats play Minnesota-Duluth at 7 p.m. in its only match of the day.
Action will also take place in the auxiliary gymnasium. A total of 16 matches will take place over the course of the tournament on the two courts (Vandament Arena and the auxiliary gymnasium). Also participating in the event will be Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foes Lake Superior State and Michigan Tech. UC-San Diego from the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCCA) makes the trip to take part in the tournament.
Soccer opens up its season on the road this weekend in Indianapolis, Ind. The 'Cats face St. Joseph's Friday (Aug. 28) at 5 p.m. before taking a day off and then hitting the pitch against the Greyhounds of the University of Indianapolis Sunday (Aug. 30) at 12 p.m.
Football will hold its final tune-up before the season opener next week (Sept. 5) at Northwood (12 p.m.). The 'Cats will hold their final scrimmage Friday (Aug. 28) in the Superior Dome at 4 p.m.
Also in action Friday (Aug. 28) is the NMU cross country runners. They open up at the U.P. Collegiate Cross Country Opener at Michigan Tech at 3 p.m.### NMU ###
