Soccer Wildcats Picked Fourth In GLIAC Poll

 

BAY CITY, Mich. – The head women’s soccer coaches of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) have selected the Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team fourth in the GLIAC Women’s Soccer Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Wildcats garnered 33 points in the balloting.
The league’s eight head coaches participated in the balloting, but were not allowed to vote for their team. The first-place team on each ballot received seven points, while second received six points, etc.
Grand Valley State the defending league champions were selected to win the 2009 GLIAC women’s soccer title in preseason balloting. GVSU outdistanced Tiffin by 12 points in the voting (49-37) and were selected on seven ballots for first-place votes. The Dragons received the other first place vote. 
Saginaw Valley State placed third in the balloting with 35 points after a runner-up finish in the 2008 conference tournament. Ferris State with 29 points was selected fifth. The Findlay Oilers with 10 points were tabbed sixth. Rounding out the poll were Ashland with 13 points in seventh and Northwood in eighth (11).
