Sign Summer Is Over
MARQUETTE, Mich. – A sign that summer is quickly coming to an end begins this weekend on the Northern Michigan University campus. Football is the first of the fall sports to report for the opening of preseason drills. The Wildcats begin Saturday, Aug. 8. Volleyball will report Sunday, Aug. 9. Soccer is set to report Monday (Aug. 10). Cross country runners report Aug. 17 while the golf team will begin when school starts.
The volleyball squad will be the first team in action as they will play the Green and Gold Match, Monday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. Later in the week the ‘Cats host the Wildcat Open (Aug. 27-29).
Soccer will have an Alumni Game at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 22. The ‘Cats begin for real with a road trip to Indiana to face St. Joseph’s (Aug. 28) and Indianapolis (Aug. 30).
The runners open up the 2009 season at the U.P. Collegiate Cross Country Opener at Michigan Tech Aug. 28.
Football faces Northwood in Midland, Mich. to open up the 2009 campaign, Saturday, Sept. 5. The following week the ‘Cats face Tiffin in the home opener (Sept. 12) at 4 p.m.
Golf’s first action will be at the Saginaw Valley State Invitational (Sept. 12-13). Later in the fall season the ‘Cats host the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men’s Golf Championships (Oct. 3-5) at the Marquette Golf Club.
