MARQUETTE, Mich. – Justin Florek has been invited to the 2009 U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp in Lake Placid, N.Y. The camp will run from August 7-15 as participating players are candidates for the 2010 U.S. National Junior Team which will compete in the 2010 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship in Saskatoon and Regina, Sask. from Dec. 26, 2009-Jan. 5, 2010.
Florek is one of 43 players invited to the camp. The camp will feature practices, three games between the split U.S. squads and four games against Russia. Florek, a forward, just concluded his freshman campaign for the ‘Cats during the 2008-09 season and collected 17 points on nine goals and eight assists.
Former NMU player Nathan Sigmund helped the U.S. National InLine Team claim the silver medal at the 2009 International Ice Hockey Federation InLine Hockey World Championship. The U.S. team fell to Sweden, 7-6, in the gold-medal game. In six games at the tournament, Sigmund tallied seven points on three goals and four assists. He was a +7 over the six games.
Team USA played in the gold-medal game for the eighth time in the tournament’s 14-year history and claimed a medal for the first time since 2006. The United States has earned gold medals in 1996, 1997, 1999, 2004 and 2006; silver medals in 1998, 2001 and 2009; and bronze medals at the 2000, 2003 and 2005 tournaments.
