Women's Track And Field Team Announces Awards

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University women’s track and field team announces its team award recipients for the indoor and outdoor seasons.  Freshman Bailey Franklin and junior Krista Squiers walked away with two awards each.
Franklin who hails from River Falls, Wis. picked up the MVP for jumps and Freshman of the Year Awards. Squiers from Owosso, Mich. received the MVP for throws and the Team Choice Awards.
Franklin was recently named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women’s Co-Freshman of the Year for outdoor track. She won the triple jump at the GLIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a school-record leap (37-03.00). Franklin won the triple jump at the GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships with a school-record measurement of 36-05.00 and placed third in the pentathlon with 3,173 points for a new NMU record. 
Squiers placed third in the javelin (111-01) and seventh in the hammer throw at the GLIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Her throw of 152-00 in the hammer set a new NMU record.  She also participated at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in the weight throw. Squiers placed fifth at the GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships in the weight throw with a heave of 55-03.00.
The MVP for sprints was awarded to Catherine Angeli. At the GLIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Angeli was sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.61 and seventh in the 200 (26.09). Angeli set a new NMU record in the 200 during the prelims at the GLIAC event with a time of 25.51. She placed sixth in the 200 dash at the GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships (26.42).
 Bibiane Mahy and Jenifer Wiedmeyer were named co-MVP for the distance events.   Mahy placed eighth in the 800 at the GLIAC outdoor meet with a time of 2:21.38. Wiedmeyer ran the 1,500 (5:01.32) and 5,000 (19:35.54) at the GLIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.  Mahy and Wiedmeyer were both members of the distance medley relay at the GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.   The relay placed sixth with a time of 12:33.19.
