NMU Hockey Schedule For 2009-10

 

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University hockey team will face in back-to-back weekends two participants from this year’s Frozen Four to kickoff the 2009-10 schedule. NMU will host Bemidji State Oct. 23-24 and the RedHawks of Miami the following weekend (Oct. 30-31).  Nine of NMU’s first 10 games will be against teams from this year’s NCAA Tournament (Minnesota-Duluth, Bemidji State, Miami, Ohio State and Notre Dame). 
The Wildcats open the 2009-10 season with an exhibition game against Ryerson University from Toronto Sunday, Oct. 4. NMU will hit the road the next week for the third installment of the Superior Cup with games at Michigan Tech (Oct. 9) and Minnesota-Duluth (Oct. 11).  The first half of the season the ‘Cats host Nebraska-Omaha (Nov. 20-21), Michigan State (Dec. 4-5) and Michigan Tech (Dec. 18). NMU will face Ohio State (Nov. 6-7), Notre Dame (Nov. 13-14) and Michigan Tech (Dec. 19) away from Marquette the first half of the season.
NMU begins 2010 at the Dodge Holiday Classic which will be held at the University of Minnesota (Jan. 2-3). Also participating will be fellow Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) member Bowling Green and Clarkson from ECAC Hockey. Minnesota is the host of the tournament. The ‘Cats host the Falcons at the Berry Events Center the weekend of Jan. 15-16. Other teams visiting NMU the second half of the season include Alaska (Jan. 29-30), Western Michigan (Feb. 12-13) and Lake Superior (Feb. 26-27). Road stops for the ‘Cats the final two months of the regular season include Ferris State (Feb. 5-6) and Michigan (Feb. 19-20).
The Lakers (Lake Superior) along with the Mavericks (Nebraska-Omaha) and Nanooks (Alaska) are in NMU’s CCHA scheduling cluster. NMU visits Alaska Nov. 27-28, LSSU Dec. 11-12 and UNO Jan. 22-23.
