Women's Nordic Ski Team Awards

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women’s Nordic ski team recently held its awards banquet and the following student-athletes received awards for the 2008-09 season. Voting was done by the coaches and student-athletes for the awards.
Laura DeWitt took home the Most Valuable Skier Award. DeWitt was named the NCAA Central Region Female Athlete of the Year. She was named to the All-Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) first team. At the NCAA Skiing Championships she placed 17th in both the freestyle and classic races.  
The Most Improved Skier Award was shared by Ingrid Fjeldheim and Caitlin Cassidy. Fjeldheim was named to the All-CCSA first team. Cassidy was a top 20 skier on the final CCSA points list.  
Marie Helen Soderman picked up the Freshman Skier of the Year Award. She was an All-CCSA first team pick. The Team Choice Award was shared by Anna Karin Berglund and Randi Vermelid. Both skiers finished the season on the CCSA points list.
