MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University volleyball team held its award banquet and the following student-athletes received awards.
Mandie Meyer took home the Most Valuable Player Award. She was a second team selection to the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Team for the 2008 season. Meyer led the team and was sixth in the GLIAC in kills with 405. The Crystal Lake, Ill. native also had 24 service aces, 348 digs and 36 total blocks for the 2008 campaign.
Caryn VanBeckum and Breanne Zaremba took home the Team Captain Award. VanBeckum was an All-GLIAC first team selection for the 2008 season. She was second on the team with 323 kills, led the team in block solos (43) and total blocks (95). Zaremba collected 280 digs during the past season.
The Wildcats as a team received the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2007-08 academic year. It honors volleyball teams who have a minimum grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.00 scale during the full academic year.
