MARQUETTE, Mich. – Chris Warner won four of the seven awards at the Northern Michigan University men’s basketball awards banquet. Warner took home the Most Valuable Player, Best Defender, Top Rebounder and the Kip Taylor Memorial Awards.
He averaged 10.4 ppg while leading the team with 43 steals as he also had 77 assists. Warner started all 27 games for the Wildcats during the 2008-09 season. He was named to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division All-Defensive Team. Warner pulled down a team-high 140 rebounds during the season.
Raymont McElroy, the GLIAC Freshman of the Year, was chosen as the Newcomer of the Year. He was second on the team in scoring by averaging 13.0 ppg and led the ‘Cats with 83 assists.
The Sixth Man Award went to Sebastien Salois. He appeared in all 27 games during the season as he went 15-34 (.441) from beyond the arc and averaged two points an outing.
By going 32-of-37 (.865) from the free throw line, Marc Renelique picked up the Best Free Throw Percentage Award.
