Former NMU Skier Morgan Smyth First American In Classic Race
FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Former members of the Northern Michigan University Nordic ski team are currently competing at the U.S. Cross Country Ski Championships.
Tuesday (March 24) saw former NMU skier, Morgan Smyth finish second overall in the 5K classic race with a time of 16:31.8, but she was the first American to cross the finish line. Less than 15 seconds later NMU alum, Caitlin Compton crossed the finish line in fifth place with a time of 16:46.0. Maria Stuber with a time of 17:14.9 was 16th while Lindsey Dehlin (17:16.3) finished 18th in the event.
Smyth was part of the winning relay Wednesday (March 25) as she teamed with Elizabeth Stephen to take the team sprint finals with a time of 23:19.3. Compton and Stuber were the next team with a time of 23:19.8. Dehlin also competed in the sprint finals with Evelyn Dong to place eighth with a time of 24:45.9.
