MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University hockey team (18-16-5) heads to Joe Louis Arena and the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) championship this weekend. NMU will play in the first semifinal game Friday (March 20) against Notre Dame with the puck dropping at 4:35 p.m. The game against the Fighting Irish will be shown on FSN Detroit. In the other semifinal the Michigan Wolverines face the Alaska Nanooks at 8:05 p.m. The second semifinal game will be shown on the Big Ten Network.
Win or lose the ‘Cats would also play Saturday (March 21). The championship game is set for 7:35 p.m. while the third-place game would drop the puck at 3:35 p.m. Only the championship game would be shown on FSN Detroit.
All games can be heard on The Point (100.3 FM) as well as streamed on the NMU athletic web site.
NMU is one of the hottest teams in college hockey as the Wildcats are 15-4-2 since the calendar flipped to 2009. The ‘Cats are 6-1 in the past seven games. The Fighting Irish defeated NMU in all four meetings during the regular season.
Tickets for the CCHA Championship are available at the Northern Michigan University Ticket Office in the Superior Dome until noon Thursday (March 19). Tickets may also be purchased over the phone (906-227-1032).
Tickets are $25 for adults and $9.50 for students. A $1 consignment fee will be added to the purchase price of each ticket.
