BAY CITY, Mich. – Raymont McElroy and Chris Warner from the Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team have picked up Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) post-season honors. McElroy was chosen as the GLIAC Freshman of the Year while Warner was named to the GLIAC North Division All-Defensive Team.
McElroy, a redshirt freshman from Milwaukee, Wis., was second on the NMU squad in scoring (13.0 ppg) and third in rebounding (3.3 rpg) while shooting .434 percent from the floor during his rookie season. McElroy played 35.9 minutes a game which led the Wildcats and was second in the GLIAC in minutes played. He started 26 of NMU’s 27 games. McElroy ranked 14th in the GLIAC in scoring, 12th in assists (3.1 apg), 11th in three-point field goal percentage (.422) and 10th in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5). He scored a career-high 26 points against Hillsdale on Feb. 19, 2009.
Warner led the ‘Cats during the 2008-09 season with 140 rebounds (5.2 rpg) and 43 steals (1.6 spg). In the GLIAC Warner was 19th and sixth respectively.
