JENISON, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women’s swimming and diving team concluded the 2009 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Swimming and Diving Championships with 153.5 points for an eight-place finish. Grand Valley State captured the women’s title with 897 points with Wayne State second (869).
Kelli Vander Bann led the Wildcats on the final day with a third place showing on the 3-meter board with 375.80 points. Sarah Cempel swam a 10:49.38 in the 1,000-yard freestyle which was good for 11th place. Ashley Oliver in the 200 backstroke swam a 2:16.72 which tied her for 13th.
The 200 breaststroke saw Hannah Bolger swim a 2:36.36 which placed her 14th in the event. The final event of the meet which was the 400 freestyle relay saw Brenda Zickus, Catherine Sromek, Bolger and Emily Olson swim a 3:48.48 for an eighth-place finish.
