JENISON, Mich. – Day three is in the books at the 2009 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Swimming and Diving Championships. The Northern Michigan University team is currently in eighth place with 103 points. Grand Valley State is leading the competition with 605 points as Wayne State is second (572).
Leading off the night’s swims in the finals were Stephanie Rogaczewski and Elyse Sawka in the 400-yard I.M. Rogaczewski was 13th with a time of 4:58.62 while teammate Sawka was next as she touched the wall with a time of 5:06.13. The 100 butterfly saw Emily Olson (1:01.53) with a 15th place showing.
Ashley Oliver was the lone Wildcat on the night to swim in the championship heat as she was fifth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.65, which is a NCAA Division II “B” cut.
The NMU 800 freestyle relay of Sawka, Sarah Cempel, Catherine Sromek and Oliver swam an 8:18.89 for seventh place.
The event will conclude tomorrow (Feb. 14).
