MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University volleyball program announces its spring schedule. The Wildcats are coming off a 20-12 overall record for the 2008 season and an 11-5 slate in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). According to Dominic Yoder, the NMU head volleyball coach, the spring season is a great way to increase player skill development and proficiency with the underclassmen to help prepare them and the team for the 2009 championship season in the fall.
The team will begin practice on March 9. March 21 will be the first scheduled event for the Wildcats. That day NMU will host Michigan Tech and Lake Superior State in Vandament Arena. NMU will face MTU at noon, LSSU will take on MTU at 2:30 p.m. and the final match of the day will have the Wildcats and Lakers at 5 p.m. Each match will be a standard volleyball match.
Tickets for the day are available for $5 from the NMU Athletic Office or from anyone associated with the NMU volleyball program and at the door. Ticket stubs will be collected to put into a drawing for prizes. Prizes will include a Play Station 3, an Apple IPod, season tickets for volleyball at NMU or LSSU, dinner for two at the Casa Calabria in Marquette or at the Ang-Gio’s Italian Restaurant in Sault Ste. Marie, a signed Laker or Wildcat volleyball jersey, movie and popcorn for two at GKC Theaters and a signed volleyball game ball by all three teams. The prizes will be given away during the final match of the day (NMU-LSSU).
The ‘Cats will also compete at Eastern Michigan University March 28, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay April 4 and at Minnesota-Duluth April 11. Opponents and times of the matches will be announced at a later date.
