Two Days Down At GLIAC Swimming And Diving Championships
JENISON, Mich. – After two days of swimming and diving at the 2009 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Swimming and Diving Championships the Northern Michigan University women’s swimming and diving team sits in eighth place with 56 points. Grand Valley State leads the competition with 369 points.
The first day of the competition saw Sarah Cempel swim an 18:08.85 in the 1,650-yard freestyle which was good for 10th place.
The 1-meter diving highlighted the second day of the event. The Vander Baan sisters led the way for the Wildcats. Kelli with a score of 349.20 was seventh while sister, Kara, was eighth with 324.55 points.
After swimming the 1,650 the first day of the meet, Cempel came back to place 13th in the 500 with a time of 5:16.06. The 400 medley relay of Ashley Oliver, Hannah Bolger, Emily Olson and Brenda Zickus placed eighth (4:14.42).
The event will run through Saturday (Feb. 14).
