FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Two Northern Michigan University hockey players were honored by the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) for their play against Bowling Green State University over the weekend. For the third week in a row, Erik Gustafsson was named the CCHA’s Defenseman of the Week while forward Jared Brown was selected as the CCHA’s Offensive Player of the Week.
The sophomore from Kvissleby, Sweden was +3 and had two assists in Friday’s 3-0 win over BGSU and had another +3 night in Saturday’s 4-1 win. Gustafsson (2-21-23) is tied with Mark Olver (10-13-23) for the team lead in points with 23. He leads NMU in assists (21) and plus/minus (+12).
Brown, a sophomore from Gardner, Kan., was the third star each night in the sweep of the Falcons. Friday he had two goals in the shutout win. Saturday Brown opened up the scoring with an unassisted shorthanded marker. Currently for the season Brown has 15 points on eight goals and seven assists.
