MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University hockey team, 6-1-1 since the beginning of 2009, hosts the Bowling Green State University Falcons in a Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) weekend series. Hockey (9-13-4, 6-10-4-3 CCHA) is the lone NMU team at home this week.
The men’s and women’s basketball teams are on the road for a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) games. Thursday (Feb. 5) the NMU women’s team (11-8, 6-8 GLIAC) takes on the Ashland University Eagles at 5:30 p.m. The men’s team (9-10, 4-10 GLIAC) faces the Eagles at approximately 7:30 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 7) the women’s and men’s basketball teams face the Tiffin University Dragons at 1 and 3 p.m. respectively.
Friday (Feb. 6) the day will begin with the Blue Line Luncheon at 11:45 a.m. in the Michigan and Ontario Rooms of the University Center. The event is open to the public and the cost is $8.50 per person. NMU head coach Walt Kyle is scheduled to speak along with selected Wildcats. The event will serve as a preview to the games against the Falcons.
The puck will drop at 7:35 p.m. Friday for the first game against BGSU. It is “Freshmen Trading Card Day” at the game. Saturday’s game (Feb. 7) will be “Sophomores Trading Card Day” with the puck dropping at 7:35 p.m.
The NMU women’s track and field team will be at Grand Valley State for two meets. Friday (Feb. 6) the ‘Cats are running at the GVSU Open. Saturday (Feb. 7) the Lakers are hosting the NCAA II Challenge.
