Pie Eating Contest Saturday At NMU Basketball Game
MARQUETTE, Mich. – Men’s and women’s basketball trading cards will be given away at Thursday’s and Saturday’s Northern Michigan University basketball games. The freshmen cards will be given out on Thursday and the sophomores on Saturday.
Thursday (Jan. 29) the men (9-8, 4-8 GLIAC) and women (10-7, 5-7 GLIAC) will host the Ferris State University Bulldogs in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) showdown. The women’s game is set for 5:30 p.m. while the men will hit the court at approximately 7:30 p.m.
The PEIF, Superior Dome and the Berry Events Center will be buzzing with activities on Saturday (Jan. 31). In the Dome the NMU women’s track and field team hosts its lone meet of the season the Northern Challenge at 11 a.m. Across the walkway in the PEIF Pool the NMU women’s swimming and diving team will enter the water against the Lakers of Grand Valley State for Senior Day at 1 p.m. Also at 1 p.m. the women’s basketball team will tip-off against Grand Valley State for the first game of the GLIAC doubleheader in the Berry Events Center. The men will follow at approximately 3 p.m. Saturday is “Take a Kid to the Game Day” all kids in eighth grade and under will be admitted FREE with a paid adult.
Big Boy is the sponsor of Saturday’s basketball games. Sign up at the Big Boy, 1950 US 41 West, Marquette, for a pie eating contest which will be held at halftime of the men’s game. The winner will receive a dessert package from Big Boy.
Hitting the road this week the NMU hockey team (7-13-4, 4-10-4-3 CCHA) will face the Western Michigan University Broncos for a two-game set in Kalamazoo, Mich. Friday and Saturday (Jan. 30-31) nights. The puck will drop both nights at 7:35 p.m. Friday’s game will be televised on Fox Sports Detroit Plus. On Charter it is channel 88 and for the City of Negaunee it can be found on channel 51. For those with DirecTV it is channel 664 and channel 448 on Dish Network.
The NMU men’s and women’s Nordic ski teams after a successful weekend at Mount Itasca last week travel to Hayward, Wis. for the SuperTour event Saturday and Sunday (Jan. 31-Feb. 1).
