COLERAINE, Minn. – The Northern Michigan University men’s Nordic ski team took both sides of the Mount Itasca SuperTour event over the weekend. Saturday (Jan. 24) the men skated to the classic team title with 75 points then on Sunday (Jan. 25) the Wildcats captured the freestyle team title with 72 points.
Justin Singleton led the ‘Cats in the 10K classic race with a time of 26:39.5 which was good for 11th place. NMU also had the next two places as Phil Violett was 12th (26:40.0) and Kevin Cutts 13th (26:43.1). Tim Cook had a top 20 finish as he was 20th with a time of 27:20.4.
Cook led the NMU skiers on Sunday in the 10K freestyle race with a 12th-place showing with a time of 25:53.5. Two spots back was Singleton in 14th (26:11.2). Cutts was 20th (26:27.7) and Violett 23rd (26:42.5) in the event. Sindre Stokke rounded out the skiers for NMU as he covered the course in a time of 28:20.6 for 42nd.
NMU took the overall team results for the weekend with 300 points. Michigan Tech was second (249) and UW-Green Bay third (211).
This week the ‘Cats are at the SuperTour stop in Hayward, Wis. Saturday and Sunday (Jan. 31-Feb. 1).
