MARQUETTE, Mich. – It will be a quiet week around the Northern Michigan University home athletic front. Men’s and women’s basketball are on the road along with the women’s indoor track and field team. Hockey and women’s swimming and diving are idle this week.
Thursday (Jan. 15) the road begins in Findlay, Ohio for the men’s and women’s basketball squads against the Findlay Oilers. The women’s team (8-5, 3-5 GLIAC) will face the Oilers at 5:30 p.m. in Croy Gym. Kelsey Deacon who was named this week’s GLIAC North Division Player of the Week leads the squad. She leads the team in scoring by averaging 15.2 ppg. The men’s team (9-4, 4-4 GLIAC) will play the top ranked team in men’s NCAA II basketball at 7:30 p.m. Marc Renelique who was named this week’s GLIAC North Division Player of the Week leads the squad into the weekend by averaging 16.9 ppg.
The second part of the road swing finds the men’s and women’s basketball teams at Hillsdale College Saturday (Jan. 17). Action gets underway with the women’s game at 1 p.m. which will be followed by the men’s contest at approximately 3 p.m.
Also on Saturday the NMU women’s indoor track and field team will compete in its second competition of the season. The team will compete at the Lake Superior State University Classic beginning at noon.
