MARQUETTE, Mich. – To break some of the boredom of the Holidays the Northern Michigan University Athletic Department has a couple of ideas for you. The Northern Michigan University men’s and women’s basketball teams will be at home this week. It will be a great chance to watch the ‘Cats in action.
Monday (Dec. 29) the men’s team (6-3, 2-3 GLIAC) hosts the Northland College Lumberjacks in a non-conference game at 3 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 3) the Wildcats are back in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play against Michigan Tech at 3 p.m. NMU defeated MTU in Houghton on Dec. 13 (69-67).
Tuesday (Dec. 30) it is the women’s (5-4, 1-4 GLIAC) turn to hit the hardwood against the Bulldogs of Minnesota-Duluth at 5:30 p.m. in a non-conference clash. NMU defeated UM-Duluth the first game of the season in Duluth (63-60). Saturday the women will also face the Huskies at 1 p.m. MTU downed NMU in Houghton a couple of weeks ago (74-43).
The NMU hockey team (3-12-3, 2-9-3-2 CCHA) begins 2009 with a non-conference series at Madison, Wis. against the Wisconsin Badgers on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 2-3). Face off is at 8:07 p.m. both nights. The ‘Cats are looking to get back in the win column as the team is winless in its past seven games (0-5-2).
The NMU men’s and women’s Nordic ski teams will be Anchorage, Alaska for the U.S. National Championships which will be held from Jan. 3-8.
