IRONWOOD, Mich. – Racing under extreme conditions according to Sten Fjeldheim, the Northern Michigan University Nordic ski coach, the NMU men’s Nordic ski team competed at the Holiday Invitational over the weekend. Saturday (Dec. 13) the men competed in the 10K freestyle race while on Sunday (Dec. 14) the group skated the 10K classic course.
Phil Violett led the way for the Wildcats in the open division of the freestyle race. Violett finished in fourth place with a time of 25:37.2. Kevin Cutts was the next ‘Cat as he was 13th (26:25.0) following were Tim Cook 17th (26:59.6) and Justin Singleton  19th (27:00.9). Sindre Stokke captured the college freestyle race with a clocking of 26:26.1.
Violett again on Sunday led the ‘Cats with a fourth-place showing in the open division of the classic (27:35.6). Right behind Violett was teammate Cutts (27:44.0). Cook (29:34.0) 16th and Singleton 21st (29:51.2) rounded out the competitors for NMU. Stokke was second with a time of 28:35.7 in the college classic race.
The ‘Cats will race again in the new year at the U.S. National Championships which will be held in Anchorage, Alaska from Jan. 3-8.
