MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University volleyball program announces four high school seniors have all signed a National Letter of Intent to attend NMU and play volleyball for the Wildcats beginning in the fall according to head coach Dominic Yoder. Signing were Abigail Lovell, Andree Ring, Samantha Vierk and Sarah Hamilton.
Lovell (5-10) a setter from Leonard, Mich. and Marian High School lettered three times in volleyball. She was a two-time all-state selection picking up first-team honors after her senior season and third team honors after her junior season. Lovell was a three-time first-team all-league pick as well as a two-time all-region selection. She played on state runner-up teams her junior and senior seasons. “(Abigail) Lovell is a dynamic and multidimensional setter with outstanding leadership characteristics,” said Yoder. “We are really looking forward to bringing in an athlete with a great attitude, work ethic and the ability to run the offense. Lovell should make an immediate impact on the 2009-10 squad.”
Ring (5-10) a leftside hitter form Madison, Wis. and Edgewood High School was a three-time letterwinner in high school. She was a unanimous first-team all-conference selection in 2008. Ring was a first-team all-city pick in 2008 after being an honorable mention selection in 2007. After her senior season, Ring was an honorable mention all-state selection. “Andree (Ring) has the potential to be an outstanding outside hitter for NMU. She brings great jumping ability and ball control skills that make her an extremely versatile athlete,” said Yoder. “Ring has great court awareness and knowledge of the game.”
Vierk (6-0) a middle hitter form West Lafayette, Ind. and Harrison High School lettered in volleyball three times during her high school career. She was a first-team all-conference selection and a member of the North All-Star Team. Vierk had the most blocks on her high school team for three years and had the best hitting percentage twice. She was a city/county high jump champion in track. “We are looking for (Samantha) Vierk to step in right away and made an impact in the middle blocker position,” said Yoder. “She has good size and speed allowing her to be a very dynamic attacker who runs the slide attack very well. Samantha is a motivated player on and off the court.”

Hamilton was also a three-time all-region pick. Also participates in basketball and track. “(Sarah) Hamilton is a strong attacker with good size, athleticism and ball control. Her ability to not only attack but dig balls and pass serve will allow her to make an impact both offensively and defensively, said Yoder. “Sarah is a hard working player with a lot of heart.”
