MARQUETTE, Mich. – This week the Northern Michigan University men’s and women’s Nordic ski teams will open up the season by hosting the NMU Open Saturday and Sunday (Dec. 6-7) at Blueberry Ridge. Saturday’s event begins at 10:30 a.m. and will feature the men’s and women’s 10K freestyle races. The men (10K) and women (5K) will ski the classic races on Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m.
Also opening up its schedule this weekend is the NMU women’s indoor track and field team Friday (Dec. 5). The ‘Cats will be competing at the Saginaw Valley State University Holiday Classic. Competition begins at 4 p.m.
Three other teams are on the road for important conference games. The NMU hockey team (3-10-1, 2-9-1-0 CCHA) takes on the Lakers of Lake Superior State in the Soo on Friday and Saturday (Dec. 5-6). On the line will be the first two games for the Cappo Cup. The puck will drop each night at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard on The Point (100.3 FM)
Men’s and women’s basketball will open up Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Thursday (Dec. 4). Each team enters conference play with perfect 4-0 records. Thursday the ‘Cats are at Northwood, with the women tipping off at 6 p.m. and the men at 8 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 6) the action shifts to the Motor City as both teams will be in action at Wayne State University. Tip off for the women is 1 p.m. while the men will take to the court at 3 p.m. All four games can be heard on The Point (100.3 FM).
Swimming will conclude the first semester of action by participating at the Eastern Michigan University Invitational Friday and Saturday (Dec. 5-6). The ‘Cats dive into the pool at 3:30 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday.
