Men's Cagers Stay Perfect
MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team ran its record to a perfect 3-0 with an 80-48 decision over Alma College Saturday afternoon at the Berry Events Center. Alma is now 0-4 on the season.
About half way through the first half the Wildcats had a 10-point lead at 21-11 and never looked back. When Sebastien Salois sank a three-pointer with 3:34 left in the half the ‘Cats had a comfortable lead at 37-15. At the end of the first 20 minutes of play the ‘Cats enjoyed a 17-point cushion (41-24).
The second half was all NMU. Over the first five minutes of the half the ‘Cats went on a 13-2 run for a 54-26 lead after a jumper by Tyler Kazmierkoski. With a little less than 10 minutes left in the game the ‘Cats enjoyed a 30-point lead (67-37) after Mark D’Agostino sank two free throws. Over the final four plus minutes of the game the ‘Cats held Alma to one point.
Four ‘Cats ended the game in double-figures as Salois came off the bench to have a game-high 15 points. Marc Renelique, Kazmierkoski and Austin Rowe all had 13 points. Jared Benson had seven rebounds for game-high honors. Tommy Erickson for Alma had a team-high 10 points.
NMU shot 41.7 percent from the floor for the game (25-60). That included 11-32 from the three-point line (34.4 percent). Salois led the ‘Cats from the arc by going 4-6. From the charity stripe the ‘Cats were 19-22 for 86.4 percent. NMU had a big advantage on the boards at 46-29.
NMU will be back in action again on Monday night (Nov. 24) at the Berry Events Center against Finlandia at 7:30 p.m.
