MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Saturday night jinx continues for the Northern Michigan University hockey team. NMU has played six games on Saturday night for the 2008-09 season. The Wildcats are currently 0-6-0 on Saturday nights this season. Tonight the Ohio State University Buckeyes shutout the ‘Cats 2-0. NMU is averaging a goal a game on Saturday nights and 1.8 goals a game for all games. With the loss the ‘Cats drop to 3-8-1 overall on the season and 2-7-1-0 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA). OSU improves to 6-6-1 and 4-5-1-1 respectively.
The Buckeyes scored both of its goals in the second period. Ian Boots scored a power-play marker at 11:20. Todd Rudasill then knocked home an even-strength goal at 19:58. Shots were almost even on the night as OSU had one more than NMU at 30-29.
Devan Hartigan started his first game between the pipes for the ‘Cats. He responded with 28 saves which included 15 in the third period. Hartigan picked up third star of the game honors. Dustin Carlson for the Buckeyes had 29 saves. OSU was 1-6 with the extra skater while NMU was 0-3.
NMU will be at home next weekend for Thanksgiving weekend games against Ferris State (Nov. 28-29) at 7:35 p.m. both nights.
