MARQUETTE— The United States Olympic Education Center’s men’s Greco-Roman and women’s freestyle wrestling teams will participate in the NYAC International Open Nov. 21-23 in Manhattan, N.Y. The event will be held at the historic New York Athletic Club and will be the first international wrestling tournament held in the United States this season.
Greco-Roman wrestlers scheduled to compete, along with their respective weight classes, are: Northern Michigan University post-baccalaureate student Nate Engle (St. Helena, Calif.), junior Spenser Mango (St. Louis, Mo.) and sophomore Paul Tellgren (Anoka, Minn.) at 55 kg; postbaccalaureate student Jacob Curby (LaGrange, Ill.), juniors Ben Sanchez (Leominster, Mass.) and John Dibala (Silverton, Ore.) and sophomore Bo Beckman (Orem, Utah) at 60 kg; seniors Cheney Haight (Orem, Utah) and Andy Bisek (Chaska, Minn.), juniors Talon Knox (Salt Lake City, Utah) and Marco Toledo (Foley, Ala.), sophomores Jon Drendel (North Aurora, Ill.) and Aaron Briggs (Tucson, Az.), and post-baccalaureate student Jake Fisher (Platte City, Mo.) at 74 kg;sophomore Zac Nielsen (Zimmerman, Minn.) at 84 kg; junior Peter Gounaridis (Leominster, Mass.) at 96 kg and sophomore Peter Kowalzuk (Oak Park, Ill.) at 120 kg. Facility users Jamarii Tucker, Chad Hemerson and Jake Plamann are also set to compete.
Last year, the USOEC had three Greco-Roman champions: Spenser Mango, Joe Betterman and Jacob Fisher.
The following women’s freestyler wrestlers are scheduled to compete: Marquette Senior High School seniors Adeline Gray (Denver, Colo.) at 67 kg, Veronica Carlson (Addison, Ill.) at 63 kg and Helen Maroulis (Rockville, Md.) at 51 kg; NMU senior Nichole Darrow (Lanesboro, Mass.) at 59 kg; and NMU junior Alyssa Lampe (Tomahawk, Wis.) 51 kg.
