BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Gregor Hanson’s first period goal did not hold up as the Northern Michigan University hockey team lost its fourth game in a row Friday night at the BGSU Ice Arena. The Falcons scored a goal in the third period and one in overtime for the 2-1 win. NMU is now 2-6-1 overall on the season and 1-5-1-0 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA). BGSU improves to 4-5-2 and 3-3-1-0 respectively.
Hanson scored his first goal of the season at 11:57 to give the Wildcats the early 1-0 lead. Nick Sirota and Mark Olver assisted on the goal. David Solway turned out to be the hero for the Falcons as he scored the game-tying goal at 18:20 of the final frame. He then scored the game-winner at 1:57 of the overtime period. Dan Sexton and Brandon Svendsen assisted on both goals.
The home team had 50 shots for the game while the ‘Cats had 20. Brian Stewart picked up second star of the game honors as he had 48 saves. NMU failed to convert on the power play as the ‘Cats were 0-4. BGSU was 0-8 with the extra skater.
NMU will be looking for its first win on Saturday night this season when the two teams play the second game of the weekend set at the BGSU Ice Arena tomorrow night (Nov. 15). The puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
