Two Newcomers Lead Cagers At Michigan State
EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team opened the 2008-09 season with an exhibition game at Michigan State Wednesday night. NMU dropped the game by a score of 118-57.
Two newcomers led the Wildcats on the night. Marc Renelique, a junior transfer, led the ‘Cats with 24 points. Redshirt freshman Raymont McElroy added 18 points. They were the only two ‘Cats to finish the game in double-figures. Jared Benson led the 'Cats off the glass with six rebounds.
For the game NMU was 22-63 from the floor for 34.9 percent. From the three-point line the ‘Cats were 7-26 for 26.9 percent. Five of the three-pointer came from Renelique as he was 5-10. The ‘Cats made 12 trips to the free throw line and converted half of the throws (6-12 for 50 percent).
The ‘Cats will play for real the weekend of Nov. 15-16 by hosting two games. Saturday (Nov. 15) NMU will play Northland Baptist at 3 p.m. The next day, Sunday (Nov. 16), the ‘Cats will face UM-Duluth at 1 p.m.
