MARQUETTE, Mich. – Volleyball and swimming highlight the home events this week for the Northern Michigan University sports scene.
Volleyball (18-9, 10-4 GLIAC) will host two important matches at the end of the week. Friday (Nov. 7) the Bulldogs of Ferris State will face the Wildcats in Vandament Arena at 7 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 8) the top team in the GLIAC North the Grand Valley State Lakers face the ‘Cats at 2 p.m. Following Saturday's game there will be a pizza social with the team for fans. The social is sponsored by Jon and Jenny Webb and Downtown EyeCare. NMU needs wins to secure at least one home match for the upcoming GLIAC Volleyball Tournament.
Soccer (11-8-1, 7-6-1 GLIAC) is at Ferris State today (Nov. 4) with a 2 p.m. kickoff, as the fifth seed, for the quarterfinals of the GLIAC Women’s Soccer Tournament. Ferris State defeated NMU twice during the season. If the ‘Cats would win Tuesday’s match they then would advance in the tournament and play again on Friday (Nov. 7). If NMU would win on Friday the team would play in the championship on Sunday (Nov. 9). Grand Valley State is the host for the semifinals and final match.
Men’s basketball will play an exhibition game at Michigan State on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. The game can be viewed on www.bigtennetwork.com
Football (2-7, 2-7 GLIAC) hits the road for the final game of the 2008 season. The Wildcats face the Greyhounds of the University of Indianapolis on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 2:30 p.m. The ‘Cats will look to end the season with a win.
Saturday (Nov. 8) the NMU women’s swimming and diving team will host UW-Oshkosh at noon in the PEIF Pool. It is the first home meet for the Aqua-‘Cats for the 2008-09 season.
The NMU cross country team will be running at the NCAA II Great Lakes Regional at Ferris State on Saturday (Nov. 8).
