ASHLAND, Ohio – For the fourth time this season, Kari Buckel scored two goals in a game. That was all the Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team needed Sunday afternoon as the squad defeated Ashland University (2-0) in the regular-season finale. NMU finishes the regular season at 11-8-1 overall and 7-6-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Ashland ends the season at 7-13 and 4-10 respectively.
Both of Buckel’s goals came in the first half of action. She scored her first goal at 33:15 which was unassisted. A little over five minutes later she teamed up with Brittney Buchanan for her second of the day at 38:37. Kara Music registered her fifth shutout of the season and 18th of her career. She had two saves in the win.
NMU had the shot advantage at 11-5. The Wildcats had five corner kicks to two for the Eagles.
NMU will play at Ferris State on Tuesday (Nov. 4) in the GLIAC Tournament. Ferris defeated the ‘Cats twice during the season. In Marquette the Bulldogs won 1-0 and in Big Rapids it was 3-0.
