MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women’s volleyball team went out of conference on Saturday and faced the Blue Knights of Urbana University. NMU had little trouble in taking care of the team from Ohio as the Wildcats won in three straight (25-17, 25-8, 25-18). The ‘Cats improve to 18-9 overall. Urbana falls to 7-23.
Caryn VanBeckum and Mandie Meyer led the ‘Cats with 15 and 10 kills respectively. NMU as a team had 46 kills in 90 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .411. The ‘Cats held the Blue Knights to a hitting percentage of .133 on 25 kills in 83 total attempts.
Rachel Green had 39 assists, one service ace and two digs for the ‘Cats. As a team NMU had nine service aces. Katt Garvick had a team-leading three service aces. Cassie Osiecki led the ‘Cats on the defensive end with 10 digs. VanBeckum had two of the three block solos for the match.
Next weekend, NMU will play the final weekend of the regular season. NMU will face Ferris State on Friday (Nov. 7) at 7 p.m. and Grand Valley State on Saturday (Nov. 8) at 2 p.m.
