MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women’s volleyball team needed four sets to take care of the Michigan Tech Huskies Friday night at Vandament Arena. NMU won the first two sets (25-21, 25-17) before MTU took the third set (24-26) and the Wildcats came back to take the fourth set and the match (25-20). The win gives the ‘Cats a 17-9 overall record and a 10-4 slate in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). MTU falls to 16-9 and 10-4 respectively.
Three ‘Cats had over 15 kills for the match. Daniela Bezerra led the way with 21 kills in 39 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .462. The 21 kills is a career high. Mandie Meyer added 18 kills while Katt Garvick had 15. As a team the ‘Cats had 68 kills in 149 total attempts for a .349 hitting percentage.
Rachel Green seeing some action tonight had 53 assists, which is a career high. Cassie Osiecki added two service aces and 11 digs in the win. Meyer had 10 digs on the defensive front. At the net, Caryn VanBeckum registered three of the five block solos.
NMU will go out of conference tomorrow (Nov. 1) against the Urbana Blue Knights at 5 p.m.
