Volleyball 'Cats Drop First Set But Take Next Three

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Friday night at Lake Superior State University the Northern Michigan University women’s volleyball team had a bit of a scare as they dropped the first set to the Lakers, but then rattled off three in a row for the win. NMU with the four-set win (15-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-11) improve to 16-8 overall and 9-3 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Lakers fall to 6-14 and 2-10 respectively.
Daniela Bezerra and Mandie Meyer had the big arms for the Wildcats on the night. Each ended the match with 13 kills. Caryn VanBeckum chipped in with 11 kills. NMU only had a hitting percentage of .114 in the first set. For the match the ‘Cats had 55 kills in 148 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .203. 
Madeline Ogden had a match-high 40 assists to go along with her three service aces and nine digs. Three ‘Cats had over 10 digs as Meyer led the way with 16, Cassie Osiecki was next with 11 and Rebecca Feuerherd had 10.
Ogden was also busy at the net as she had a block solo and four block assists.
The ‘Cats will stay on the road with a match against Saginaw Valley State tomorrow (Oct. 25) in University Center at 4 p.m.
