MARQUETTE, Mich. – In the four previous games before today the Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team scored a grand total of one goal. They exceeded that total today with three goals in the first half which held up for the 3-0 win over the visiting Northwood University Timberwolves. NMU is now 9-8 overall on the season and 5-6 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Northwood falls to 1-12 and 0-10 respectively.
Kari Buckel scored NMU’s first goal of the game at 17:25. She leads the team with nine goals. At 25:32 Brittney Buchanan scored on a header off a corner kick by Meghan Sarna. The final goal of the contest was scored by Abigail Debiak at 34:27.
Kara Music and Dana Bush combined for the shutout with three saves. NMU outshot Northwood 11-6. The ‘Cats had six corner kicks to five for the Timberwolves.
NMU will play its three final regular season games on the road. The ‘Cats are at Findlay (Oct. 24), Tiffin (Oct. 26) and Ashland (Nov. 2).
