INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Northern Michigan University women’s volleyball team made a loud statement Friday at the GLVC-GLIAC Crossover Tournament. NMU defeated two top 25 teams to go 2-0 on the first day. The Wildcats defeated #21 Northern Kentucky University 3-2 (25-22, 25-17, 22-25, 21-25, 15-13). Later in the day the ‘Cats struck again this time against #24 the University of Indianapolis 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-23). With the two wins NMU is currently 15-7 on the season.
Caryn VanBeckum and Daniela Bezerra led the ‘Cats against NKU with 23 and 20 kills respectively. Emma Wolfe added 10 kills. As a team NMU had 69 in 166 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .325. Madeline Ogden had 50 assists in the win. Meyer added 15 digs. At the net, Katie Twardzik had seven block assists while Wolfe added six.
Meyer led the ‘Cats in the second match of the day against UIndy with 11 kills. Wolfe had 10 kills. As a team NMU had 39 kills in 104 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .298. Ogden added 31 assists and 13 digs for NMU. VanBeckum had three block assists at the net.
The ‘Cats face Southern Indiana tomorrow (Oct. 18) in second day action.
