MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University hockey team (1-1-0, 0-0-0 CCHA) opens up Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) play this weekend at the Berry Events Center. NMU will host the University of Michigan Wolverines in a weekend set on Friday and Saturday (Oct. 17 and 18) at 7:35 p.m. both nights.
Other activities are planned around the hockey series this weekend. There will be a Blue Line Club Luncheon on Friday (Oct. 17) at 11:45 a.m. in the Peter White Lounge at the University Center. The cost of the luncheon is $8.50 per person. Walt Kyle and selected Wildcats will appear. UM head coach Red Berenson is scheduled to speak. Before Friday’s game (6:30-7:35 p.m.) and during the first and second intermissions there will be a Wildcat/Blue Line Club social with a cash bar in the Wildcat Room. The final event of the weekend will be a fourth period reception at Hudson’s after the game on Saturday.
Before the hockey game and after the Blue Line Luncheon on Friday (Oct. 17) the NMU women’s soccer team (7-8, 3-6 GLIAC) host Saginaw Valley at 4 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 19) for Senior Day, Northwood will be the ’Cats opponent at noon on the NMU pitch. The ‘Cats are looking to snap its three-game skid.
The NMU volleyball team (13-7, 8-3 GLIAC) will travel to Indianapolis, Ind. to participate in the GLVC-GLIA C Crossover Tournament. The ‘Cats face Northern Kentucky and the University of Indianapolis on Friday (Oct. 17). Saturday (Oct. 18) the ‘Cats have a match against Southern Indiana.
Football (1-5, 1-5 GLIAC) takes to the road for the second consecutive week to face the Chargers of Hillsdale College on Saturday (Oct. 18). Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. The team is looking to put a win the column after dropping its past five games.
