MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women’s volleyball team won its fifth match in a row on Saturday with a three-set win over the Wayne State Warriors (25-16, 25-17, 25-20). NMU has won its past three matches in three straight sets. The Wildcats improve to 13-7 overall and 8-3 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). WSU falls to 10-9 and 5-6 respectively.
Caryn VanBeckum once again had the big arm for the ‘Cats. She recorded 13 kills in 20 total attempts for a hitting percentage of .550. Daniela Bezerra had 14 kills in the win with a hitting percentage of .444 on 27 total attempts. Mandie Meyer added 11 kills. As a team the ‘Cats had a hitting percentage of .376 on 51 kills in 104 total attempts.
Madeline Ogden had 41 assists for the match. Cassie Osiecki on the defensive end had a match-high 12 digs. At the net VanBeckum added two block solos and a block assist.
Next weekend (Oct. 17-18) the ‘Cats are at the GLVC-GLIAC Crossover Tournament in Indianapolis, Ind.
