MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team won its third straight Friday afternoon 2-0 over the University of Findlay Oilers. With the win the Wildcats are now 7-5 overall on the season and 3-3 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Oilers fall to 2-6-1 and 1-4-1 respectively. For the third time this season, Kari Buckel scored twice in a game. She has a team-high seven goals on the season.
Kara Music with seven saves on the day recorded her third shutout of the season and her NMU-leading 16th of her career. She currently has a 0.84 goal-against average and a .846 save-percentage.
Both of Buckel’s goals came in the second half. Her first goal was unassisted at 50:27. Buckel’s second goal at 59:41 was from Dana Stephens.
NMU ended the day with 13 shots to nine for the Oilers. The Wildcats had five more corner kicks than UF (6-1).
The ‘Cats are back in action on Sunday (Oct. 5) against Tiffin University at noon.
