MARQUETTE, Mich. – Homecoming Week has arrived at Northern Michigan University. Many activities are planned for the weekend.
The Homecoming Parade is set for Friday, Oct. 3 at 5:30 p.m. along Third Street. Later on that day (6:30 p.m.) will be the NMU Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony which will be held at the University Center.
Soccer (6-5, 2-3 GLIAC) will kick things off by facing the University of Findlay at 2 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 3). The ‘Cats are riding a two-game winning streak. The team will also be in action on Sunday (Oct. 5) against Tiffin.
The NMU volleyball team (9-7, 4-3 GLIAC) comes back home after spending the past five matches on the road. This weekend the ‘Cats host Ashland on Friday (Oct. 3) at 7 p.m. and then he next day (Saturday, Oct. 4) the Dragons of Tiffin University at 2 p.m.
Also on Saturday (Oct. 4) the NMU swimming and diving squad will begin its season with the Green and Gold Meet at 10 a.m. At 4 p.m. in the Superior Dome on Saturday the NMU football team (1-3, 1-3 GLIAC) will look to bounce back and put a W in the win column. NMU faces the Cardinals of Saginaw Valley State. A Fifth Quarter Reception will be held after the game at the Holiday Inn.
After soccer on Sunday, fans can run over to the Berry Events Center to catch the 2008-09 NMU hockey team as they host the University of Toronto in an exhibition game. Following the game Wildcat fans are invited to Skate with the 'Cats.
Golf will hit the links at the GLIAC Men’s Golf Championship on Sunday and Monday (Oct. 5-6). Saginaw Valley State is the host of the event.
