MIDLAND, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University women’s soccer team made it a clean sweep on the weekend with a 2-1 overtime win over Northwood Sunday. Friday the Wildcats defeated Sagnaw Valley State (3-2). With the win the ‘Cats are now 6-5 overall and 2-3 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Timberwolves fall to 1-6 and 0-4 respectively.
The Timberwolves got on the board first thanks to a penalty kick at 74:18. Kari Buckel scoring her third goal of the weekend tied the score at one-all at 83:45. Casey Wilcox assisted on the goal. The score stayed for the remainder of regulation. A little over two minutes into the overtime session, Brittney Buchanan heeder home the winner off a free kick (92:16). Meghan Sarna picked up the assist.
Kara Music made two saves on the day. Shots were in favor of the ‘Cats 10-3. NMU had seven corner kicks, all in the second half, to three for Northwood.
NMU will be home this coming week. Friday (Oct. 3) the ‘Cats host Findlay at 2 p.m. before entertaining Tiffin on Sunday (Oct. 5 at noon).
